Faculty/Staff

Biran, Gony

Status: Post Doctoral Scholar

I completed my B.Sc. studies in geology at 2005, my M.Sc. studies in engineering geology at 2008 and my Ph.D. studies in engineering geology at 2013, all at the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.

My M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies focused on finding methods to assess seismic hazard through back analysis of failures of both natural structures, i.e. ancient seismically induced landslides, and man-made structures, namely seismically damaged archeological structures. In my graduate studies I worked with the numerical discrete element method Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA), designed to model dynamic deformation of discontinuous media.

I joined the Nevada Seismological Laboratory as a post-doctoral scholar in September 2013, supported by the Geological Survey of Israel. My research at NSL focuses on engineering seismology.
