School of Earth Sciences, The Australian National University

As part of an initiative to expand work in Deep Earth Sounding, The
Research School of Earth Sciences seeks to make an appointment of a
Seismologist, in the Earth Physics area, to strengthen and complement
current activities in seismology that exploit Australias unique
position in relation to regional and world seismicity with the goal
of understanding Earth structure and dynamics.  Applicants will be
expected to have established a strong research profile in the
analysis of seismological observations and the development of
interpretational techniques for determining Earth structure and to
demonstrate future leadership in seismological research. Experience
with seismological field work would be an advantage.  The continuing
appointment will be for full-time research and the level of
appointment will depend on the experience of the applicant.

The School hosts the Australian National Seismic Imaging Resource
(ANSIR) Major National Research Facility, with 50 portable broad-band
and 120 short period systems available for competitive access. A 24
element seismic array (WRA) is operated at Warramunga in the Northern
Territory, and two broad-band stations WRAB and CAN as a contribution
to global seismology.

The successful applicant will be expected to take a major role in the
development of the program in seismology, to take responsibility for
appropriate data management, supervise graduate students and
contribute to the Schools graduate teaching program.  An active
program of external fund raising is expected.

Salary Package: Level C  A$72,242 - A$82,931, Level D  A$86,491 -
A$95,042, Level E1 A$110,718 pa plus 17% superannuation
