Research Associate Professor at CERI (Center for Earthquake Research and Information) with faculty affiliation through the Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Memphis. We are seeking an experienced individual to lead the continuing expansion and upgrade of the CERI seismic and computer networks. We anticipate that much of the effort of the successful applicant will be devoted to full implementation of the ANSS (Advanced National Seismic System) in the Mid-America Region. CERI is an independent research unit in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Center has a faculty of twelve, is a core institution of the Mid-America Earthquake Center, operates regional seismic networks totaling over 120 broadband, short-period and strong motion instruments in 10 states and maintains a portable seismic array with international deployment capability. Content-Length: 1782 X-Lines: 25 Status: RO The position is a 12-month, non-tenure track appointment with faculty rank at the research associate professor level. The appointment will begin no later than July 1, 2003, but an earlier start date is both possible and preferred. A doctorate in seismology, geophysics or a closely related field is required at the time of the appointment. A minimum of three (3) years experience in seismic network design, operation and/or implementation is required as well as experience developing computer resources and managing system administration in a networked computing environment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be expected to assume the Principal Investigator role in existing seismic network support grants and demonstrate a proven record of obtaining support from external granting agencies. Other duties may include teaching graduate courses or seminars, graduate student advising, and conducting externally supported research on a time-permitting basis; the primary responsibility, however, is directing the CERI seismic and computer networks.
