We are interested in applicants from a broad range of areas related to earthquakes, including but not limited to structural mechanics and control, geotechnical engineering, seismology and risk analysis. A person with strong analytical skills who focuses on basic research is preferred. We are seeking highly qualified candidates who are committed to a career in research and teaching. The appointment is expected to be in engineering, but for suitable individuals, a joint appointment in seismology is also possible. This search has been ongoing and is now being restarted to broaden the scope and attract a wider range of candidates. The term of the initial appointment is normally four years, with appointment contingent upon completion of a PhD in a relevant field. Exceptionally well-qualified applicants may also be considered at the associate or full professor level. Interested candidates are asked to complete the on-line application summary, and should submit a resume with a list of publications, a statement of research and teaching plans, two to three scientific papers (if available), and a list of references. Instructions regarding the submission of application materials can be found at http://www.eas.caltech.edu/earthquake-search/. Queries may be directed by e-mail to earthquake-search@caltech.edu. Caltech is an Equal-Opportunity/Affirmative-Action Employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and disabled persons are encouraged to apply.
