This position performs specialized technical work in support of seismic and acoustic network operations, diverse research and field data acquisition projects, and supports the professional and student staff in research and data delivery efforts. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring incoming and outgoing data; checking the overall status of seismic and infrasound data flow; ensuring data quality and completeness through established procedures; maintaining a database that describes installed instrumentation, station locations, and various data recording parameters; interacting with professional staff with field deployments and instrument installations as requested; responding to critical instrumentation or systems failures as required; responsible for accounting for government furnished equipment; participating in the design of new data acquisition systems and taking responsibility for the fielding and testing of new systems as they are implemented. As part of this design, installation and testing process, will need to prepare written and oral summaries of this work that can be delivered in an instructional environment involving mixtures of students and professionals. Position involves some after hours work and travel, both national and international. A Bachelors degree is required, preferably in a scientific or engineering field. A minimum of four years work experience is required, preferably in systems operation and maintenance (O&M) and/or new systems testing and evaluation (T&E). Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Candidates must possess the ability to independently read and understand manufacturers User and O&M manuals. A working knowledge of computers and operating systems such as Linux, Unix and Windows is essential.
