He/she will be working within the EC-project NERIES. The position is temporary for the duration of the project, i. e. four years and the candidates should be ready to start by September-October 2006. Main tasks: - Developing the strategy and the implementation of a data portal in close collaboration with the ORFEUS, the European sister organization in Netherlands. The portal will integrate various seismological services and products both centralized and distributed; it will include real time data exchanges with many seismological institutes. - Developing web applications for the EMSC website. Qualifications: We expect someone with a good knowledge of Linux/Unix, Java and XML. Knowledge of Oracle, Python/C, SOAP is an advantage. Excellent communication, proposition and cooperation skills together with a good knowledge of the English language are basic requirements. Affinity and interest in earthquake research is a pro. Basic knowdelge of French language is desirable. We offer a dynamic, small group of enthusiastic colleagues. The group cooperates with many partners internationally. The work will therefore require international travels on a regular basis. We further offer excellent opportunities to develop own initiatives. The EMSC staff is based at the Laboratoire de Détection et Géophysique of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique, France, at about 40 km south of Paris. Free transport services are available from Paris and surroundings to the premises. Salary will depend on the experience. Subcontractors are not accepted.
