The Structures Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Department of Commerce seeks to fill a senior position at the ZP-V pay band level ($80,658-$104,851), equivalent to GS 15 in the traditional federal scale, in structural or mechanical engineering. Candidates must possess extensive experience in research management, a proven track record of generating large, multi-year research funding from Federal agencies and/or the private sector, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. They must also possess demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following research areas: high-performance construction materials (e.g. concrete, FRP composites), nondestructive evaluation for condition assessment of constructed facilities, wind engineering, construction metrology and automation, structural fire endurance, and blast-resistant engineering. The duties of the successful candidate will include developing and leading a world-class multi-investigator program, expanding and leveraging the ongoing research areas in which the Structures Division is engaged. The Division's programs provide the technical basis for voluntary consensus standards and industry practice. Research to be performed will require demonstrated skills in one or more of the following areas: measurement, evaluation, and performance prediction technologies; interoperability and communication protocols; and the enabling experimental, analytical, and/or information technology tools.
