Geol 492/692 - References on Reserve

The following books are available at the reserve desk in the DeLaMare Library, filed under the reserve list for classes taught by Louie (check the link to see if checked out):
  1. Exploration geophysics of the shallow subsurface / H. Robert Burger ; [with] accompanying Macintosh computer software by Douglas C. Burger and H. Robert Burger; Englewood Cliffs, N.J. : Prentice Hall, c1992. DeLaMare Library: TN269 .B86 1992 Text; TN269 .B86 1992 Disk 1 Copy; TN269 .B86 1992 Disk 2 Copy. Good coverage of potential-fields and refraction techniques; will use software for several lab exercises. A recommended purchase for this class.

  2. Introduction to geophysical prospecting / Milton B. Dobrin, Carl H. Savit ; assisted by Heloise Bloxsom Lynn ; with additional chapters by Norman Neidell, Yoram Shoham, and Ozdogan Yilmaz; New York : McGraw-Hill. DeLaMare Library: TN269 .D6 1988; TN269 .D6 1988 c.2. Best introduction to all techniques; coverage of seismic and potential fields is particularly strong. A recommended purchase for students with strong interests in geophysics.

  3. Applied geophysics / W.M. Telford, L.P. Geldart, R.E. Sheriff; Cambridge Univ. Press. DeLaMare Library: TN269 .A663 1990. THE definitive reference work on geophysical techniques. The only reliable source for information on many electromagnetic procedures. A recommended purchase for anyone who will practice geophysical data collection or analysis.

  4. Applied geophysics in hydrogeological and engineering practice / edited by William E. Kelly, Stanislav Mares ; authors, Milos Karous ... [et al.] Amsterdam ; New York : Elsevier, 1993. DeLaMare Library: TA705 .A67 1993. A rare compendium directly addressing the geophysical needs of hydrogeologists.

  5. Geotechnical and environmental geophysics / edited by Stanley H. Ward; Tulsa, Okla. : Society of Exploration Geophysicists, 1990. DeLaMare Library: TA705 .G426 1990 v.1; TA705 .G426 1990 v.2; TA705 .G426 1990 v.3. Huge collection of case histories in three tomes. Papers are better reviewed and are of more consistent quality than those in the SAGEEP proceedings volumes (which are not owned by the UNR Libraries).

  6. Basic exploration geophysics / Edwin S. Robinson, Cahit Goruh; New York : Wiley, c1988. DeLaMare Library: TN269 .R54 1988. Orientation toward petroleum exploration.
