Rock Valley Area Earthquakes 1978-1992
Earthquakes of the central Nevada Test Site from October 1, 1992,
through September 1995, on a shaded relief image. Magneta symbols are the
locations of earthquakes of M 3 and greater as reported in the
Southern Great Basin Earthquake Catalog. Blue symbols are earthquakes
of less than M 3.0. The large cluster of seismicity on the west side
of the image is the aftershock sequence of the June 29, 1992 M 5.8 Little
Skull Mountain earthquake. The cluster of M 3+ earthquakes in the
center of the figure is the 1993 Rock Valley earthquake sequence. The Rock
Valley fault zone trends northeast-southwest through the center of the image.
Mapped Quaternary faults are labeled in red. The image is in a UTM projection
with the reference grid at 5 km intervals.
