Hi all! I will be teaching an advanced class in how faults and other fractures work this Spring semester. It is GE 744, call #82696. We will examine the major principles that govern fracture nucleation, accumulation of displacement, mechanical interaction to form sets and interesting patterns, and propagation. Although this is not a class in either fracture hydrology or earthquake dynamics, the issues we cover may be of interest to people in these fields. Anyone with either an interest or a thesis/dissertation that involves faults, joints, or deformation bands are welcome to join us. This class will be offered again in Spring 2000. Please have your students see me if they are interested. Thanks! Rich Schultz
