Reno to Austin, Nevada
In Ausust 2004 John Louie and 17 students worked a week profiling from northern Nevada
to Fresno, Calif. Much of the work used Austin as a base, three hours east of Reno,
for this
research project. This trip starts through the Virginia Range along the Truckee River
on I-80, and proceeds across the broad Carson Sink and past Sand Mountain on
US 50 (the ``Loneliest Road''), across Fairview Valley, then passing Westgate, the Shoe Tree
at Middlegate, and (near) Eastgate, Cold Springs, New Pass, and Mt. Airy Pass;
catching a quick glimpse of Austin's historic cemeteries before arriving.
Taken was on Aug. 17, 2004, this movie comprises frames taken
every 4 seconds while traveling as fast as 75 miles per hour.
If you can play it back at 30 frames per second, you'll make the journey at
9000 miles per hour! One minute and 20 seconds instead of three hours.
This flight was among the first taken with a Sony DCR-HC20 camcorder at full DV resolution.
The camcorder was connected with a FireWire cable to a Titanium Powerbook running
iStopMotion 1.3 from Boinx.
