Quarterly Report to the Harry Reid Center
UCCSN-DOE Cooperative Agreement
Task 12: Seismic Monitoring
PI: James N. Brune
UNR Seismological Laboratory
Report Period: 06/01/2003 – 09/30/2003
Progress:
During this reporting period (Jul.-Sep. 2003), we have maintained
seismic operations with 30 real-time SGBDSN stations under the QA procedures
that have been established with the HRC.
Network uptime has been 98.7% overall.
A major power interruption at Sober Peak in southern Nevada caused over
24 hours of the lost time.
The FY02 seismicity report has been finalized and submitted. A final report on Task 12 of the Cooperative
Agreement was submitted for technical and QA review. It was determined that the report does not need to be QA, and we
have submitted it as a final report on that basis.
At the end of this quarter, we have completed analyzing the
earthquakes in the YM vicinity through September 30. We have decreased the backlog to nearly zero days in the past
quarter. No significant events occurred
in this past quarter.
The kappa report was circulated for informal review. One set of independent reviewer comments was
received; another is due. A
comprehensive internal review was completed.
Documents are in various stages of preparation for QA approval of
software.
Installation of the three ESF accelerometers has been held up
until our technician has GUT training.
This should occur shortly. All
technical aspects have been resolved.
Problems:
None to report.
Status of Funds:
We are completing final accounting on Task 12 with the Grants
& Contracts Office; this may take another week or two. Our preliminary reckoning is that we will
close the task with a nearly zero balance.
Plans:
Subject to approval of budget and workscope for the next 5-year Cooperative Agreement (FY04-FY08).
