The University of Nevada Seismological Laboratory recorded an earthquake of M = 4.8 (ML) at 10:12 AM (PST) Sunday, December 12, near Fallon, Nevada. The preliminary location of the event is 39.686N, 118.297W, approximately 49 km (31 mi) ENE of Fallon. The depth was computed to be approximately 11 km (7 mi), but depth is not well determined due to lack of near recording stations. The earthquake was widely felt in Fallon, but no damage reports have been received at the Seismological Laboratory. This location, on the west side of the Stillwater Range, is a seismically active zone, with three known events of magnitude 5 or greater in the last 150 years.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory recorded an earthquake of M = 4.1 at 12:35 PM (PST) Monday, December 20,1999, in south-central Nevada. The preliminary location of the event is 37.74N, 115.97W, roughly between the Belted Range and the Quinn Canyon Range and just east of the lower part of Railroad Valley. The depth was computed to be approximately 17 km (12 mi), but depth is not well determined due to lack of near recording stations. No felt reports have been received on this earthquake, which occurred in a very remote area of the state.
