M 4.0 Earthquake Near Mina, Nevada.
A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded today at 3:52 PM, PDT,
May 29, 2003. It was located at 38.262 N, 117.904 W, with a preliminary
depth of 8 kilometers (5 miles). This location is approximately
23 km (14 miles) southeast of Mina, Nevada. This is a remote area
in the southern part of the Monte Cristo Range. This event was preceded
by an M 3.7 earthquake at 11:33 AM PDT at approximately the same
location and also by some other smaller, intervening shocks. There
have been no felt reports received at the Nevada Seismological Laboratory
at this time. Numerous aftershocks have been recorded.
