Initiated in 1988 as an informal forum for geophysicists to share new techniques and applications, the symposium has grown from about 50 attendees to over 400 in 1996. SAGEEP is now the annual meeting of the recently formed EEGS, which has as its goals:
The Symposium begins with short courses which 1) provide fundamental overviews for non-geophysicists on the basics of various geophysical techniques as applied to engineering and environmental problems; and 2) provide timely, state-of-the-art development for geophysical professionals.
The short courses are followed by three days of sessions covering applications, advancements, and case histories. A large exhibit hall highlights services, geophysical equipment, and software available from throughout the United States and several other countries.
Reno and near by Lake Tahoe offer unlimited recreational opportunities for the whole family. The mild spring setting at Reno allows warm weather activities such as golf, sightseeing, tennis and fishing, while winter sports are still available in the Sierra Nevada less than an hour away.
You can also submit abstracts by fax to (702) 673-7421 or by email to louie@seismo.unr.edu. If you email your abstract, please write a brief summary of one or two paragraphs, and send it as plain ASCII text within the mail message itself, not as an attachment. Also suggest what session may be most appropriate.
Abstracts should include a title, the author's name, address, affiliation, fax number, and E-mail. We require abstracts to adequately review the technical content of the proposed papers. Your abstract (no more than two pages) should be detailed enough to allow a clear understanding of the content and objectives of the final paper. A few figures may be attached for clarification if needed. Full manuscripts (10 page maximum) will be required by December 15, 1996 for inclusion in the Proceedings. Only papers appearing in the Proceedings may be presented at the Symposium.
Abstracts are now being requested for all sessions. It is the goal of EEGS to promote discussion between professionals on capabilities and limitations of current geophysical technology (case histories), new developments in equipment and software, and to facilitate technology transfer from research to practical applications. EEGS also aims to promote dialog between geophysicists, geologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and others who may utilize geophysics. Interaction between these professions is a source of new applications. Suggested paper topics include, but are not limited to the use of digital mapping, aerospace, gravity, magnetic, seismic refraction or reflection, radar, electromagnetic, and downhole geophysical techniques to environmental and engineering applications. A preliminary list of session topics is below.
Be informed, be involved and be a part of the exciting evolution of this science as it addresses world wide concerns of environmental and engineering problems. Sharing your experience will benefit everyone. Your innovative application of geophysics today may hold the key to the solution of tomorrow's problems.
