Ground offset of about eight feet formed a new small cliff to the left of the cabin during the 1954 Dixie Valley earthquake east of Fallon, Nevada. When the fault slips like this, it is called a “normal faulting” earthquake. This kind of faulting forms the mountains and the valleys throughout the Basin and Range province.
