Pioneer Inn - Casino in Reno. This structure was taken down in November, 2001. Notice the large open space beneath the structure, and the relatively narrow columns supporting the upper stories. This author does not know if this specific structure was vulnerable to an earthquake, but a soft first story such as this is often a point of failure in strong earthquakes.
