Annual Meeting
April 27 - 29, 2005
Hyatt Regency - Incline Village, Nevada (Lake Tahoe)

DESTINATION: LAKE TAHOE

Setting

Lake Tahoe is a distinctive and beautiful mountain lake. The average surface elevation is 6223 feet (1897 m), and it is rimmed by mountain peaks up to 10891 feet (3320 m). Lake Tahoe is famed for its large size of roughly 12 miles x 22 miles (19 km x 35 km); its depth of 1645 feet (501 m), making it the second-deepest lake in the United States; and its clarity (you can see ~100 feet or 30 m down). Vegetation around the lake is dominated by ponderosa pines. It is formed in an active graben on the western edge of the Great Basin against the Sierra Nevada.

Climate

Daytime high temperatures in late April average about 57o F (14o C), and overnight lows average about 32o F (0o C), so come prepared for pleasant days and chilly evenings. The record high for April 27-29 is 75o F (24o C), and the record low is 14o F (-10o C). Average precipitation in April is 0.88 inches (2.3 cm). A spring snowstorm is possible, but it's not likely to stay, and snow removal in this area is very efficient. The sun shines 80% of the time.

Activities

Lake Tahoe is one of our national treasures. It's stunningly beautiful, and the air is crisp and clear. Top recreational activities at this time of year include spring skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, bicycling, golf, tennis, birding, fishing, and Vegas-style gambling and big-name entertainment in nearby casinos. Interested in bringing your children? We intend to make this a "family-friendly" conference, and we will post additional information on the website.
