Thank you for registering for the Nevada Great Basin Community Velocity Model Followup Workshop, scheduled for November 3, 2008 at the University of Nevada, Reno. The workshop is expected to be held in room #402 of the Joe Crowley Student Union building. We expect that everyone has already made their own travel and accommodation plans, but please let us know if you have run into difficulties.
The forthcoming email will have several attachments to help make your stay more enjoyable. Please let me know if you are unable to open any of them and I will be happy to fax them to you. A preliminary workshop schedule is below. Also included and below are a map of the campus, UNR Wireless Network Configuration for Laptops information for those of you planning to bring your laptops, bus information to help you get about, and a few other bits of helpful information. Feel free to email or give me a call if you need additional help (mcclella@unr.edu or 775-784-4977).
Sunday Arrival
If you encounter difficulties when you arrive on Sunday, please give the convenor John Louie a call on his cell phone: (number available in your emailed materials), or email him at johnnlouie@gmail.com.
Preliminary Workshop Schedule
Preparing Your Presentation
At the workshop we will have an LCD projector and WindowsXP computer with Microsoft Powerpoint. You will be able to connect your own laptop to the projector if you desire. As well, the convenor will have a MacBookPro with OS 10.5 and MS-Office 2004 available. A live internet connection may be available from the workshop room, but it is best not to rely on it for a 15-minute presentation. Most of you are contributing a presentation as well as to the discussions, and you can bring your presentations on your own laptop, a USB flash drive, or a CD or DVD.
Parking
If you plan to drive, please stop by the Information Kiosk (#029 on the map) and pick up your blue parking permit. Tell the person that you are attending the Great Basin Community Velocity Model Workshop. She will give you a blue parking permit to hang on your mirror, and direct you to the designated parking area.
Personal Laptop Use
We will have temporary passwords for you when you sign in on Monday, as you will need a temporary password in order to use the university wireless connection. Extension cords will be provided in the workshop room for those who need AC power connections.
Food
A generous breakfast, coffee breaks and lunch menu will be catered. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. “The Joe” (as it is affectionally called) also has a Starbucks in the lobby for those diehard Starbucks fans. http://www.unr.edu/studentunion/
Bus
The Sierra Spirit is Reno’s free shuttle service. Its yellow bus makes a continuous mile-and-a-half loop up and down Virginia Street and has 11 stops. The bus runs every 10 minutes from 7am to 7pm. Bus stops are marked with a yellow Sierra Spirit sign. Exit the bus at Lawlor Events Center (#104) and it is a short (200 yard) walk east to the new Joe Crowley Student Union building.
