ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS Engineer Research and Development Center Position: Research Civil/Hydraulic/Mechanical Engineer or Physical Scientist/Naval Architect DB-0810/830/1301/0871-02 w/Promotion Potential to DB-04 or DB-0810/830/1301/0871-04 Receipt of applications: 19 June 2009 - 19 June 2010 Location: Navigation Division, Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Vicksburg, MS Multiple Selections will be made from this announcement Salary Range for DB-2 $30,772 - $73,329 per annum Salary Range for DB-4 $67,613 - $123,519 per annum Duties: This position is for a developmental level DB-02 Research Civil/Hydraulic/ Mechanical Engineer/Physical Scientist or Naval Architect with promotion potential to DB04 or entry at DB-04. Duties include conducting studies related to navigation, coastal, river, and sediment engineering; large and small harbor hydrodynamics and hydraulic and coastal structures. These studies include one or more topics such as inland and coastal navigation, shallow and deep draft navigation, reliability and risk engineering applications to engineering and environmental disciplines; dredge engineering, hydraulics and sedimentation, fluid and structural mechanics, regional and watershed analysis, environmental hydraulics and fish passage technology. Additional duties include the quantification of numerical model uncertainty parameters, model validation protocols and structure-fluid interaction dynamics. The work uses a combination of experimental statistics, scaled physical hydraulic models, and computational hydrodynamic numerical models. Assignments are part of a research project and may include developing information from a variety of sources. The incumbent will work as team member under the direction of senior engineers and scientists on major research and cost-reimbursable projects. This position requires that the applicant communicate their portion of the work on a project both orally and through technical documents to both project members and customers. Technical documents are comprised of technical reports, informational reports, technical notes and journal papers. The applicant may be required to present research results at technical meetings, workshops, and conferences. This position requires knowledge of one or more of engineering, statistics, structural or fluid dynamics, numerical methods, scientific data analyses. An undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering/physical science or naval architect would indicate the level of performance sought for this position. Promotion and Pay Potential: This position is a permanent full time position. Within any band in this Science & Technology Laboratory Personnel Demonstration Project, progression through the salary range to the maximum in the band is based upon annual Federal wide pay increases and increases related to individual performance under the pay for performance compensation system. Travel to First Duty Station or Permanent Change of Station expenses WILL be paid. You must have a Grade Point Average of 3.50 or greater in a 4.0 system in the subject matter field.
