USGS Mendenhall Postdoc Opportunity, Earthquake Hazards Team Improving Ground Motion Forecasts for Future Earthquakes The USGS Earthquake Hazards Team has several postdoctoral research opportunities available as part of the USGS Mendenhall Research Fellowship program. One of these opportunities focuses on improving our understanding of the 3-D structure in order to better forecast ground motions for use in seismic hazard analyses with the San Francisco Bay area serving as a model region. Recently graduated or soon-to-be graduating PhD students are encouraged to develop a focused research program that fits broadly within this topic. Candidates with backgrounds in areas such as geophysics, seismology, computer modeling, applied mathematics, or tectonphysics would be most appropriate. The application deadline is November 9, 2009. Candidates must have completed their PhD between November 9, 2004 and the starting date (October 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011). Details of the USGS Mendenhall Postdoc Research Program can be found at the USGS website: http://geology.usgs.gov/postdco This is Research Opportunity #28 out of a total of 62 being offered for fiscal year 2011.
