Animation Demonstration

Caution: this page makes huge demands on browser memory and can crash the best of them.
This movie shows the propagation of an acoustic wave through a heterogeneous velocity model in cross section, synthesized by a finite-difference solution of the acoustic wave equation. At left is an animated GIF. If you only see a static image, go to Netscape and get Navigator 2.0 or better for your machine.

QuickTime -- MPEG
Above are links to the movie in two popular formats. Clicking on one should get your browser to invoke a helper application that will play the movie. Set your movie player to ``Play All Frames'' for the smoothest results.
If that doesn't happen, download the latest QuickTime (PC and Mac) and MPEG ( VMPEG for PC; Sparkle for Mac) movie players ( xanim for UNIX). If you would like to have your browser play the movie without having to invoke a helper application, go to Netscape and get Navigator 3.0 or better for your machine.
The really advanced and perfectly configured browser will have a plug-in allowing you to see the animation playing at left embedded in the web page itself.
