Current schedule for use of the Mackay Lacoste & Romberg G509 gravimeter

Please send a message to John Louie at louie@seismo.unr.edu to schedule your project.

The Mackay Lacoste & Romberg G509 gravimeter is a very delicate instrument that makes physical (not electronic) measurements to a precision of 20 parts per billion, demonstrated in the field. It is a collaborative facility run and paid for by the Mackay PIs who use it. Because of the risk of damage and the benefits of prior experience to the data quality yielded, we only loan the Mackay Lacoste & Romberg G509 gravimeter to operators with sufficient prior experience, or to projects that employ an experienced operator for training project staff. John Louie will recommend experienced operators.

Standing Commitments

  • Louie's Geol 492/692 Applied Geophysics course uses the gravimeter each year during the 10 days of Spring Break, in March or April. There is no flexibility in this commitment. The class also needs the use of the gravimeter for a couple of weeks training in February. This is more flexible.

    Scheduled Commitments

  • Chris Kratt of DRI will schedule use in Winter/Spring of 2009-2010.
