ANSS News in Nevada:

Network Expansion Completed in 2001

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory established more than a dozen new strong-motion seismic monitoring stations during 2001 in the Reno, Carson City, and Las Vegas metro areas. Equipment was provided by the U.S. Geological Survey under the Advanced National Seismic System program. Click on an image below for a larger map. The red points on the maps are the new ANSS stations; brown points are other strong-motion stations.

Invitation to Participate in Seismic Monitoring

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory anticipates siting up to 200 accelerographs in the urbanized area of western Nevada, and up to 100 in the vicinity of Las Vegas. If you are willing to make a long term commitment as a host for an instrument on your property (personal or commercial), we would like to hear from you.

For this project, location is critical. One goal is broad geographical coverage. We aim to place instruments on representative sites with the different kinds of soil and rock conditions in the region. In general, locations in small structures are preferable to locations in large structures, but it is possible to instrument some larger structures also. We will consider responses with the above factors in mind.
