Earthquake Awareness and Mitigation Day
``Get Earthquake Safe''
Saturday April 26, 10 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Come to the University of Nevada, Reno
campus this Saturday to find out:
You will find answers to these questions in the Laxalt Mineral
Engineering Building, the Scrugham Engineering and Mines Building,
and the Mackay Mines Museum between 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
this Saturday. Here is a map so you
can find us on the UNR campus. All events are free and open to the public.
At the Seismological Laboratory
you will find the following events.
Enter the Laxalt Mineral Engineering Building from Quad level
(click here for a picture of
the entrance and a virtual tour).
All tours and demonstrations start in the
quad entryway.
- Tours of the Seismological Lab will start at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00,
1:00, 2:00, and 3:00.
- Live demonstrations in the Model Earthquake Laboratory will start at
10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30.
- Examine the world's most advanced earthquake detection network,
called ``Iceworm.''
- See slide shows, NOVA videos, and the ``Earthquakes 101'' video,
playing all day.
At the Nevada Bureau of Mines and
Geology the Publication Sales office will be open, and a
Geologist will be ready to answer your questions on the
materials below.
Enter the Scrugham Engineering and Mines Building from the northeast
corner of the Quad

the entrance).
The W. M. Keck Mineral Museum will be open this Saturday from
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Enter the Mackay Mines Building from the north side of the Quad
