Map of Strong-Motion Stations in Reno and Carson City

Earthquake strong-ground-shaking sensor sites maintained by the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. Installed in 1999, each site consists of a digitally recorded Kinemetrics EpiSensor that can measure shaking up to 2.5 g. Recording is not continuous, but is triggered by motions over 0.1 g. When local earthquake activity is quiet, records are transferred by flashROM cards quarterly.

Equipment and operational support have been provided by the State of Nevada, the U.S. Geological Survey, the W. M. Keck Foundation, the Cities of Reno, Sparks, and Carson, Sierra Pacific Power Co., and the Union Pacific Foundation. Stations are maintained by Rasool Anooshehpoor. Map prepared by John Louie.
