Disclaimers & Mislocation Warnings

Disclaimer about events near Yucca Mountain
Locations and magnitudes of seismic events within approximately 50 km of Yucca Mountain are preliminary information only. Please contact the Yucca Mountain Project Technical Library (http://www.ocrwm.doe.gov/) to obtain quality-assured technical data relating to seismic activity or other natural phenomena near Yucca Mountain.
Note on erroneous locations
The Nevada Broadcast of Earthquakes may report earthquakes that occur outside the monitoring network of the Nevada Seismological Lab. In such cases, NBE tends to place events on the maps at erroneous locations, outside of the edges of our monitoring network. Thus an earthquake sequence actually occurring in southern California may appear here near Death Valley. In particular, some of the strong aftershocks of the Hector Mine, California, earthquake appeared on these maps in southern Nevada or Death Valley. Earthquakes near San Francisco may appear here within the Sierra Nevada.
Always check the analyst-reviewed locations on our Recent Earthquakes page. The NBE is a tool for rapid earthquake notification and response, and does not produce an accurate record of earthquake locations.
Disclaimer
The information included in these documents is intended to improve earthquake preparedness; however, it does not guarantee the safety of an individual structure or facility. The State of Nevada does not assume liability for any injury, death, or property damage that occurs in connection with an earthquake.
